The School Of Night

Leaving the Fringe 2012 with the Spirit Of The Fringe Award, the team behind the smash-hit improvised musical troupe The Showstoppers return with their unique literary improv show, creating a new Shakespearean play from scratch at every performance based on audience suggestions. In the 16th century, the School Of Night was an underground sect of artists, thinkers, scientists and spies, who some scholars believe secretly wrote Shakespeare’s plays. Re‐imagined by the late, great theatrical maverick Ken Campbell for the 21st century, this team of bardic improvisers remain as one of his many legacies ‐ improvising plays, poems and music in various genres, always in pursuit of secret commissions! From Chaucer to Charles Dickens, from Pinter to Poe, from Jane Austen to Jilly Cooper, this daring group return to take any challenge, culminating in the impromptu creation of an authentically Shakespearean masterpiece inspired by audience suggestions.

From the creators of award-winning musical improv troupe The Showstoppers, who have enjoyed four sell-out Edinburgh Fringe seasons, numerous tours and London seasons and which was made into a BBC Radio 4 series in 2011. The School Of Night have played Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre, Soho Theatre, Royal Court Theatre, National Theatre, Latitude Festival and numerous international festivals. The cast includes Joseph Chance, Josh Darcy, Dylan Emery, Sean McCann, Adam Meggido, Oliver Senton and guests.
